Brick & Pressure Cleaning Helensburgh
Helensburgh sits between the Royal National Park and the escarpment, which makes it one of the wettest, shadiest and greenest places we work. It is also the natural bridge between our Illawarra base and the Shire, so it is an easy area for us to service.

On the ground in Helensburgh
The housing is a mix — older brick through the township, newer estates on the western side, and the spectacular clifftop and bushland properties out through Otford, Stanwell Tops and Stanwell Park.
What makes Helensburgh different
Rainfall here is genuinely high, the bushland canopy is dense, and the escarpment holds moisture in. Roofs grow moss and lichen aggressively, southern walls go black, and driveways under trees carry heavy tannin and algae. Very little of this responds properly to pressure alone.

Quick answer
Why do roofs in bushland areas grow so much moss?
Bushland canopy shades roofs so they stay damp for far longer after rain, and constant leaf litter provides organic material for moss and lichen to establish in. High rainfall areas near escarpments compound this by holding humidity. Treatment with a biocide kills the growth at the root, but on bushland properties the practical control measures are clearing gutters and valleys regularly and pruning overhanging branches back from the roof line.

FAQ
Helensburgh — questions we get asked
Our roof is completely green — should it be pressure cleaned?
No. High pressure on tiles strips the surface coating, forces water under the laps into the roof cavity and dislodges ridge pointing. Moss and lichen this heavy are treated with a biocide and allowed to die back, which keeps improving for weeks afterwards.
Do you come up from the Illawarra?
Yes, regularly. Helensburgh is a short run up the coast from us and it links our Illawarra work with the Shire.
