Why does efflorescence last longer on new homes in cold climates?
Efflorescence is driven by construction moisture drying out of masonry and carrying soluble salts to the surface. In cool, damp, high-humidity conditions like the Southern Highlands, that drying process takes considerably longer than on the warmer coast, so new brickwork can continue producing efflorescence for many months. Removing the bloom is straightforward, but repeat treatment is often needed while the structure finishes drying.
