Brick & Pressure Cleaning Shell Cove

Shell Cove is almost entirely new, which makes the work here very specific: new-build brick cleaning in the correct window, efflorescence through the first wet season, and then an ongoing salt problem that is more severe than anywhere else we work.

On the ground in Shell Cove

The Waterfront precinct around the marina is the extreme case. Homes directly on the water take salt spray continuously, and the difference between a house washed annually and one left for four years is not subtle.

What makes Shell Cove different

This is genuinely high salt exposure. Render goes green quickly on shaded elevations, Colorbond dulls, glass pool fencing spots with salt and calcium, and roof tiles grow lichen faster than a comparable house five kilometres inland. Regular soft washing is maintenance here, not cosmetics.

Where we work in Shell Cove

  • The Waterfront and Shellharbour Marina — maximum salt exposure
  • Shell Cove residential releases — predominantly post-2010 brick veneer
  • Killalea and the Bass Point headland to the south
  • Boollwarroo Parade and the foreshore reserve frontage

Quick answer

How often should a waterfront home be washed?

Homes directly on the water generally need a full exterior soft wash every 12 months, compared with every 2 to 3 years for houses several kilometres inland. Salt deposition is continuous on waterfront properties and salt is hygroscopic, meaning it draws moisture from the air and holds a permanent damp film against walls, roofs, fencing and glass, which is the exact condition mould, algae and lichen need to establish.

FAQ

Shell Cove — questions we get asked

What are the white spots on my glass pool fence?

Salt and calcium deposits from spray and splash-out, sometimes combined with hard water spotting from irrigation. They need a mild acidic treatment and correct neutralising, not a scourer, which permanently scratches the glass.

My house is only three years old and the render is already green — is that normal here?

Unfortunately yes on shaded elevations near the water. It is not a fault in the render, it is biological growth feeding on the constant damp salt film. A soft wash with a biocide treatment kills it at the root and holds it back far longer than pressure washing.
