On the tools

The person quoting your job is on the job

There is a small crew, and specialist insured subcontractors on the larger commercial and heritage work. What there is not is a call centre, a sales rep who has never held a wand, or a truck turning up without the person who quoted it. The same person looks at your brickwork, prices it and runs the job on site.

That is also why the advice is straight. Nobody here is paid to say yes to a job that will not work, so if a surface cannot take what you are hoping for, you get told before anything is applied to it rather than after.

Quick answer

What is Think Brick Australia accreditation?

Think Brick Australia accreditation is the national standard for brick cleaning in Australia. Accreditation requires completion of a two-day theory and practical course, passing both assessments, and an on-the-job verification signed off by an independent supervisor or client. Accredited cleaners are listed publicly by Think Brick, and brick manufacturers tie warranty coverage on cleaning work to the use of accredited operators.

Sydney, then south

The business spent two decades working Sydney — new residential estates, commercial facades, heritage buildings and the remediation jobs nobody else wanted. That is where the specialist stain work came from: when you clean enough brickwork, you eventually meet every way it can go wrong.

We have since relocated to Warilla on the Illawarra coast, and the focus has moved with it. The Shoalhaven, the Illawarra and the Southern Highlands are now the core of the business, with the Sutherland Shire and the northern Illawarra still well within reach.

02

What accreditation actually means

Anyone can buy a drum of hydrochloric acid. Think Brick accreditation means sitting a two-day course covering brick types, chemistry, dilution, application and the failure modes, passing both a theory and a practical assessment, and then completing an on-the-job verification signed by an independent party.

The reason it matters commercially is warranty. Brick manufacturers extend product warranty on the condition that cleaning is carried out correctly, and accreditation is the recognised evidence of that. For a builder, using an accredited cleaner moves a real risk off their balance sheet.

03

How we quote

Send photos. Most jobs can be priced accurately from a few clear daylight shots — one close-up and one of the whole elevation — plus rough dimensions. It saves a trip for both of us and you get a number the same day rather than waiting a week for someone to turn up.

Where a job genuinely needs eyes on it, we come and look and there is no charge for that. And where the honest answer is that the wall does not need what you asked for, or that the damage is not recoverable, we will tell you that instead of taking the job.

04

The work we prefer

Straight new-build cleaning keeps the lights on and we do plenty of it. But the work we are actually best at is the stuff other operators pass on: vanadium on cream brick, manganese streaking after somebody else cleaned it, acid burn remediation, heritage masonry where acid is off the table entirely, and fire and smoke damage.

If you have been told a stain cannot be removed, it is worth a second opinion. Sometimes it genuinely cannot, and we will say so. Often it can.

Credentials

What we can put in writing

Think Brick Australia accredited

Accredited under the Think Brick Australia brick cleaning program — the national standard brick manufacturers recognise for warranty-compliant cleaning.

Fully insured, domestic & commercial

Public liability cover for residential, commercial, strata, high-rise and rail corridor work. Certificates of currency supplied on request.

20+ years on the tools

Two decades cleaning new-build brickwork, heritage masonry and hard surfaces across Sydney and now the South Coast.

Chemical-specific stain work

Vanadium, manganese, efflorescence, acid burn, rust and iron each need a different chemistry. We identify the stain before we touch it.

If the honest answer is that your wall does not need what you asked for, or that the damage is not recoverable, we will tell you that instead of taking the job.

FAQ

About the business

Is this a one-man operation?

No. It is a small owner-operated business with a crew, and we bring in specialist insured subcontractors for larger commercial, high-rise and heritage work. What stays constant is that the person who quotes your job runs it on site, so you are never handed to someone you have not spoken to.

How far will you travel?

Comfortably from Helensburgh in the north to Ulladulla in the south, and inland to Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale and Bundanoon. Beyond that, ask — for larger jobs we will go further, and we schedule the far south and the Highlands in blocks.

Can you supply insurance and safety documents?

Yes. Certificates of currency, SWMS and site-specific safe work documentation are supplied on request, and as standard for commercial, strata, high-rise and rail work.

Do you do the work yourself?

Yes. On specialist and remediation work in particular, the person with the accreditation is the person on the wall.

Most jobs we can price from a few good photos and a description. If it needs a look in person, we will come and look.
